Mwayi; a little brother

On February 22 April 2015 a good friend of me went into labor. At 7 in the evening she went to the hospital to give birth to her baby. After investigation, it was decided to do a caesarean. At 11 PM was a beautiful baby boy born, but his mother died during childbirth, leaving her husband and 4 year old daughter behind.

The family has asked me to help take care of the boy called Mwayi (means happiness). Because I knew the mother well, I did not hesitate and I took the boy back to the Africare home. Mwayi had a healthy birth weight 3300 gram. However, the delivery was very difficult and stressful Mwayi making it difficult.

I type this story while I'm in hospital. Mwayi is already here since he was a few days old. He has received many antibiotics but remains ill unfortunately. The doctors do not know what the infection he has caused. He currently weighs 2900 gram.

The last two weeks we made a schedule so that I have some time for everyone. At night I sleep with Mwayi in hospital. To 6 hours in the morning I go home to wake the girls for school. At 8 hour I go back to the hospital for a doctor's visit and to get medicine for Mwayi. From 4 to 7 in the afternoon I take Mwayi home so that I can make dinner and we can all eat together. After I put the girls in bed, I go back to the hospital, where Mwayi weather gets medication and we stay for the night.

The schedule is as exhausting as it sounds. I'm really tired and I can not remember when I slept well last once.

Small babies in Africa are so vulnerable and with few resources out there, there is only one thing to do; pray. Many people pray everyday for Mwayi and I would ask you to do the same.

Love,

Nicole
