Last Saturday I was invited by Diana's family to attend the ceremony chef. Each village in Malawi has a person responsible for social problems to solve - the chef. The chief ceremony began on Friday, because of security reasons I decided, I decided to go along day Saturday.
We arrived Saturday morning in the village and started preparing the lunch. Hey the village cook and eat together, it's fine as part of to be a part. I soon found out that Diana's elder half-brother was not there. I asked the grandmother where he was and she told me very proudly that he received his initiation into the traditional method. I do not know exactly what they did to him, but usually belongs to initiate the making of different cuts on the body and circumcising of the genus. All this happened in the woods without hygiene. This was a moment when I made me again realize that it is not always easy to understand other cultures. After lunch we came together and the moment was there that the new chief was chosen. They capture a chef because nobody wants to be the boss. All men sit together and if a sign is given, they jump all the new chef. Wie dit is, is pre-arranged without the new chief knows this. They carry the new chief to his home. The new boss fights and attempts from the arms of the person who ordered him to escape. I asked why no one wanted to be the boss. As a chef you need to solve the social problems in the village so you make friends and enemies. The previous chef died shortly after he was elected because someone had poisoned him.
After the chef was chosen, makes, danced and sang the women around the village. Diana deedmet them, and this was absolutely her favorite part of the day. Diana love to dance, when she hears music she dances. Her family laughed and enjoyed her presence.
When the sun is going to come to the 'Chilombo' to village. Chilombo are people who cover themselves with leaves. They are trying to get hold of the young girls. There many different stories going around about what they do with the girls after they caught them. The grandmother told me that they return this the girls to their family and that the family has to pay for that money. There are also stories that girls are being raped.
